Marsa
Alam was once a small fishing village but has grown into one of
the major tourist areas in Egypt with plenty of holiday options.
The recent development of an international airport, just 30 minutes
drive from this resort, has ensured that Marsa Alam is the hottest
new destination in Egypt - and we don't mean just the weather.
Situated near the Tropic of Cancer, Marsa Alam has a true tropical
feeling, with its mangroves and palm trees, and its long beaches
with fringing and barrier coral reefs. The awesome Wadi el Gemal
National Park is in its outskirts, with 100km of pure Red Sea beach
bliss and desert landscapes.
A coastline renowned for crystal-clear water, perfect for scuba
diving or snorkelling if you prefer, attracts a relatively small
number of tourists from around the world.
However, Egypt's most southerly resort is increasing in popularity
and with weekly UK flights from Manchester and Gatwick, it won't
be long until more people discover the delights of the simply luxurious
Marsa Alam.
Most of the luxury hotels are centered around the turquoise waters
of Coraya Bay. Days are generally spent relaxing in the sunshine
or exploring the unspoilt coral reef, packed full of stunning marine
life.
Just a five hour flight from the UK, Egypt is becoming one of the
most popular tourist destinations for those seeking sun and sand.
With average temperatures of over twenty degrees celcius every
month coupled with long sunshine hours, this is the closest you
will come to ensuring that you will have good weather for your holiday.
Take advantage of your holiday in Marsa Alam to explore the historic
city of Luxor where ancient temples await. Sail across the world
famous Nile to view the Valley of the Kings.
The History
This ancient land is associated with pyramids, pharaohs and kings.
Situated between Africa and Middle East, it enjoys glorious weather
and you'll be hard pressed to find a cloud in the sky most days.
A minimum of 345 sunny days a year, an average 12 hours of rays
every day, and low humidity make this country the most perfect destination
for a relaxing break.
A rich source of history, you can take a step back in time to marvel
at how things were done many hundreds and thousands of years ago.
Anybody who travels to Egypt will struggle to fail to be captivated
by the magic and mystery of this treasure-packed wonder.
Food and Drink
Most of the hotels found in Marsa Alam serve international
cuisine. Local dishes are heavily influenced by Turkish, Greek,
French and Lebanese culture. Try Taamiya (falafel-fried patty made
from beans), Schawarma (sliced meat topped with tahini in pitta
bread) and Kofta (a spicey round meat patty).
As with any hot climate make sure you drink plenty of bottled water,
the water from the taps is not safe to drink for those who are used
to UK water standards. Bottled water is cheap and readily available
so make sure you have plenty to combat the heat and possible dehydration.
Local Currency
The Egyptian Pounds (commonly referred to as L.E)
is divided into 100 piastres (pt) and can appear extremely well
used! Both UK pounds, euros and US Dollars are widely accepted for
changing at banks or other authorised establishments such as hotels,
and rate is often better than you can expect here in the UK. Scottish
bank notes are not accepted so it is advised that you do not take
them with you.
Top Tips

travellers should take care not to place themselves in any danger.
Often, when people go abroad, they abandon the sense of danger that
they may have had at home and it can go horribly wrong. For the
